SGA’s Finance Board: What’s goin’ on?

Hey All!!!!

My name is Naomi Jackson and I’ll be blogging about SGA’s Finance Board for the rest of the semester!

This past Tuesday at SGA’s Finance Board meeting, there was much to be discussed throughout the evening.  Many different organizations came seeking the assistance of the SGA for their many events.  Among the discussion taking place in the decisions, majority of the discretions were related to issues with food as well as deadlines.

Many of the events requested an amount of monies in order to supply food at their events.  There is no issue with doing so however, the disagreement stems from if the food will benefit or even make a difference in the event. If the food will somehow enhance the event for the benefit of the attendees then there’s no issue with funding.

When planning an event, keep the following in mind:

  • Food that is requested on the basis of just feeding the audience or other non-UMBC comers that will not be beneficial to the success of the event may have issues being funded.
  • The SGA Finance Board cannot fund food specifically for non-UMBC comers because it will not benefit the actual UMBC community at all and their responsibility is such.

Another issue that was presented at the meeting was the rule of deadlines in requesting money for events. Despite how much they would love to grant money for events, the deadline policy is a strict policy and cannot be bended. The Finance Board would love to help any organization as much as possible, however abiding by the guidelines is a must.

For those of you who do not know or may have forgotten, the rule of deadlines is:

The organization’s form must be submitted at the latest

60 days before the event if the total amount of money requested is more than $3000

30 days before the event if the total amount of money requested is between $1000-$3000

15 days before the event if the total amount of money requested is less than $1000

If you have any questions, comments, or would like to see SGA’s Finance Board in action, simply stop by during the Finance Board meetings on Tuesday nights at 5:30pm and experience the excitement!

Also, be on the look out for the upcoming events from various organizations this coming April!
