SGA’s GPA Requirement
Should SGA change its GPA Requirement?
This was the controversial issue brought up by SGA treasurer James McCauley during last night’s Senate meeting. He explained that the SGA GPA requirement was a 2.25 (2.5 for executive positions) and that the university’s was a 2.0 and inquired whether or not SGA should be allowed to impose this GPA Requirement.
Some senators believed that the GPA requirement should be allowed (it provides a cushion for students, actually encourages them to keep their grades up, academics should be a student’s first priority, sets a leadership tone for SGA).
And of course there were others who opposed the GPA requirement (it’s hypocritical of SGA to impose one, some people may want to join but are limited by it, it’s not a good representation of the students, there is not a strong correlation between being in SGA and being able to keep up grades, the university’s is a 2.0).
What do you think (especially for those who have been or know someone who has been affected by SGA’s GPA requirement) should the GPA requirement be removed?
