SGA’s Office of Academic Affairs: Come Talk!
There was A LOT of talking going on in the Commons Thursday afternoon!
SGA’s Office of Academic Affairs scouted the Commons and gathered issues, concerns, and suggestions from students about what we can work on to give the UMBC community an academic “face-lift” this semester.
Between 11:00am until 2:00pm, the SGA was posted along main street asking and recording students’ thoughts and later ventured throughout the Commons to dig even deeper!
Among the many concerns and issues students had, the most prominent were:
- Transcript fees: It costs $8.00 to receive 1 transcript. Should this be OK?
- Opinions about the Drop date: Do you agree with the possibility of having 20 days to decide or should we keep the 10 days instead?
- Knowledge of graduation status before the process begins: “I don’t want to buy my cap and gown if I end up not being able to graduate later!”
- Professors utilizing the Blackboard account more: It’s here for better communication so why not use it?
- Advisers not being the best at advising me: Should we be able to possibly choose our own? Should we be limited to the advisers within our department?
All in all, the event was a great success! Thank you to everyone who gave their input! If you were not able to give your input, DON’T WORRY! You can always contact SGA Office of Academic Affairs and voice your own concerns whatever they may be. Just email us at umbcoaa@gmail.com.
