Getting Down to Business

There were a bunch of things to discuss during last night’s senate meeting.

First up was UMBC’s code of conduct for logo merchandise licenses. UMBC has joined other colleges and universities as a member of the Workers Rights Consortium and is committed to conducting its business affairs in a socially responsible and ethical manner.

Also, congratulations to Nick DeStefano who was confirmed as the Senate Secretary.

The Senators also discussed how professors handled the snow in terms of coursework/ lesson plans. Issues that came up included how some professors taught into free hour, gave extra work, make up classes, and online work.  Speaker Sunaina Khandelwal brought up the idea of setting standards for what the university/ professors can or cannot do (for example teaching into free hour or taking away Spring Break) in the event of another snowstorm.

Next week for commons hours, the senators will be asking your input on the learning resource center. They want to know if you are aware the center even exists and why or why not you are using the center.

The Senators will also be looking into:

  • Clicker updates
  • Survey methods
  • Smoking Policy
  • Parking Policy (umbc.edu/parking for more info)
  • P.E. requirements
  • Tuition Increase
  • Drop Date
