Young at heart.

Dr. Nancy Young, Vice President of Student Affairs, was the headliner of Monday’s meeting.  She was on hand to meet some of the newer members of SGA and find out what we are up to.  Young started the conversation by asking, “What do I need to know from you all?”

From there she was updated on the various projects the Senate and all members of SGA are working on.  Topics like Project Black and Gold (which I personally introduced) were brought up before the conversation began to focus on a developing “Good Samaritan” policy.

On a number of USM campuses the idea of a “Good Samaritan” policy has been floating around.  This type of policy puts students’ safety first when it comes to emergency situations involving alcohol use.  Currently, students seem to be afraid to contact police during these events because of consequences they might experience.  UMBC students and faculty are currently evaluating these policies to determine whether something of this sort should be put in place.

Young has mixed feelings on the policy, citing a lack of evidence in its favor, but is doing her best to look at the situation through a student’s perspective.
